June 19, 2014 is being celebrated as is National Dump the Pump Day which primarily to encourage people save money by riding public transportation instead of driving personal vehicles to commute from one place to another. Under the present circumstances, the National Dump the Pump day assumes more significance when crude oil prices showing an uptrend in view of violence in Iraq. Saving on fuel will not only save money for the individual but also for the government which has to import crude oil in large quantity to meet domestic fuel requirements Also with gas prices being high and with a tight economy, riding public transportation is a good alternative and an economical way to save money. Many Americans use local public transportation to commute to and from work, school, appointments, shopping, errands, family visits and etc. Like Americans and people in other countries, we too need to development the habit of using local public transportation as this will not only can this save you money on fuel, it can also save wear and tear on your car, possibly reduce your commute time and can help in reducing road congestion.
