Time to up fight against Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is a  hazardous disease which causes nearly 1.6 million deaths every year around the planet. The disease is a major barrier to social and economic development. An estimated 100 million workdays are lost due to illness. Society and the country also incur a huge cost due to TB.
As far as India is concerned, it continues to be the highest TB burden country in the world. Every year, 1.8 million persons develop the disease, of which about 800,000 are infectious; and, until recently, 370,000 died of it annually —1,000 every day, two deaths every three minutes. But these deaths can be prevented.

Though fightagainst TB in India is still far from over notwithstanding sincere efforts being made by the government authorities to check prevalence of the disease, with proper care and treatment, TB patients can be cured and the battle against TB can be won. On World Tuberculosis Day today, let us join fight against TB so as to eliminate this disease from India and the world for once and all.
