Alarming decline in girl child sex ratio

If the latest report on Child sex ratio in the country is anything to go by, the fairer sex in our country continues to get unfair treatment and the society as a whole is responsible for the same, despite government’s initiatives to promote birth of girl child and its `Save Daughter campaign’.
It is indeed shameful to learn that despite daughters/girls making India proud in all spheres of life and knowing the fact that they are no less competent than men, preference for sons and the desire for smaller families has driven down the number of girls - and women - to an all time low in the past several decades. According to report, the child sex ratio for the whole country now stands at 918, dipping further from 927 in 2001, which is lowest since 1961.
As compared to Christians and Muslims, the child sex ratio is more alarming among Hindus where it has declined from 925 in 2001 to 913 in the latest census data. This decline is the biggest among all religious communities.
The steep decline in child sex ratio has once again pointed to the fact that the place of women in our society is far from satisfactory and we all need to be blamed for this reverse trend in child sex ratio.
It is high time we all need to take collective steps to save girl child and encourage their birth for a balanced development of society and  nation
