It is quiet shocking
to learn that on an average over 1,00,000 people commit suicides in our country
every year. According to the latest government report, the number of suicides
in the past decade has recorded an increase of 21.6 per cent. The report has attributed
family problems and illness to be the main reasons which account for 24 per
cent and 19.6 per cent suicides out of the total suicides. Unemployment, debt ,
drug abuse, acute frustrations, failures in life and domestic violence are
other contributing factors to growing incidents of suicide . Our government
needs to come out with policies and create a conducive social and family
environment to prevent recurrences of suicides.
