This famous slogan was coined by Bal Gangadhar Tilak, a great Indian nationalist, journalist, social reformer, lawyer and an independence activist. One of the first leaders of the Indian Independence Movement, Tilak who earned the sobriquet of `Lokmanya’ for his mass acceptance by the people as their leader, was one of the first and the strongest advocates of `Swaraj’ (self rule) and a strong radical Indian consciousness.
On his birth anniversary today, let us pledge ourselves to emulate his wisdom, leadership qualities and the values he stood for, which in fact would be the most befitting tributes this great leader of the Indian Independence Movement.
