Let us build a family support for people suffering from bleeding disorders

About 1 in 1,000 people have a bleeding disorder. However, 75% receive inadequate treatment, no treatment, or treatment does not work due to a complication called an inhibitor.  Hemophilia and other inherited clotting factor deficiencies are lifelong bleeding disorders that prevent blood from clotting properly. People with bleeding disorders either do not have enough of a particular clotting factor or their clotting factor does not work properly. Bleeding into joints and muscles causes severe pain, chronic joint disease and disability and bleeding into major organs, such as the brain, can cause death.

World Hemophilia Day which is being observed throughout the world today provides us an opportunity to talk to your extended family and friends, colleagues, and caregivers to raise awareness and increase support for those living with an inherited bleeding disorder. On this important day, let us help  raise awareness about bleeding disorders and build a family of support for those living with them.
